Frequently
Asked Questions

What is BTC0?

BTC0 is a Bitcoin-backed token on the Canton Network. It represents BTC held in reserve and is designed for use in supported trading, collateral, and settlement applications.

Where is the underlying Bitcoin held?

The BTC reserves are held with Copper on the Bitcoin network. Holding BTC0 means holding the corresponding token on Canton; it does not give the holder direct control of the reserve wallets.

How can I verify the reserves?

The reserves page presents BTC reserve data, outstanding BTC0 supply, reserve coverage, and update timestamps. Chainlink Proof of Reserve provides backing data for verification and monitoring. Source information and the calculation methodology are available alongside the reported figures.

How does redemption work?

Submit a redemption request specifying the BTC0 amount and destination Bitcoin address, then transfer the tokens as instructed. Once the transfer is confirmed and applicable checks are complete, the BTC0 is burned and the corresponding BTC is released. Processing includes custody operations and Bitcoin network confirmations.

Who can mint or integrate BTC0?

Direct minting is available to eligible participants subject to onboarding requirements. Trading venues, wallets, and financial applications can request access to discuss integration, technical requirements, and supported workflows.
